Story #15: Who Is The One?

I heard this story from a friend of mine. In the middle of the night, his friend has the urge to go to the gents. He nudged his buddy who is on the right side of him to accompany him to the toilet. He was feeling really sleepy and lethargic. His buddy agreed and they both went to the gents.

Each of them occupied a cubicle.

“Oei, take your time hor, I’m smoking”. His buddy said. His friend compromised with that request and got out of the cubicle to wash his hands.

He looked up in the mirror, and realized that all the doors were opened and no one was inside the toilet other than himself. Thinking that maybe he’s just too tired, he called out to his buddy again.

“Eh, are you there? I’m going back”.

“Not yet lah, you go back first”.

He panicked and just when he was about to rush out of the toilet, the voice said, deeply,

"Hahaha. You know who I am already?”

Actually, there was no one sleeping on his right in the bunk..

Story #14: A 7th Month Incident

I remember it was 1st day of 7th mth on one of my booking in day. When i was on my bed unpacked my stuff, i saw a row of ppl squating down praying with candles opp my bunk but when I went to the toliet 5 mins later.

The place was empty except for people inside the bunk.

The next day I went over to see if there is any wax on the floor, i found nothing so i decided to ask the people who occupy that bunk if there were praying the night before.

The answer is NO.....

Story #13: Using A Fake Name

Last time my sister went camping with friends organized by the school... They never use their name during the camp. Instead they use nickname.. My sister say that when they do head count by calling their own nick name, there will be someone extra who called out a number...(there are 6 person in the team)

Example: 1st person: Alpha, 2nd:Bravo, 3rd:Delta, 4th:Easy, 5th:Beta, 6th:Gamma...

Every time after the 6th person call her nick name Gamma, there will be an extra voice calling "7"... It was not from one of the six people... After that, they just pretend nothing happened and get away...

My sister say that the "thing" don't know what to do so it just call "7"...

Hope you all understand what I am trying to say... He.. He..

Yea..this is wat camps usually do...especially when theres night walk or something.... and if u hear ur real name, u are not suppose to respond to it cos through out this camp u are using a fake name...

Story #12: The School's Faceless Woman

Anyways, here is one of my creepier yet wierder expieriences *and recent*…I still get nightmares over it

It was like what? 5 in the morning, my dad had an appointment at the hospital so he dropped me off early at school. Seeing I had 2 whole hours to kill I headed over to the food court nearby to get some early grub. Theres a stall I favour which opens up early to prepare the food, I’m an exception, seeing how I’ve regularly ordered from them, so they allowed me to take away some food. Settling that, I headed back to school. It was 5:20 then.

I ate my breakfast as soon as I entered the school. *The gate was already open* The security guard looked at me and told me.

“Better eat at canteen, you upper sec right? Better don’t go upstairs.”

I was wondering if he was worried he’ll get blamed for me leaving the empty food packet around later but I assured him I’ll dispose it properly, he wanted to warn again but it fell on deaf ears. I know, I’m stubborn.

Anyways, I managed to finish my grub once I hit the 3rd floor, which was my class’s level. I threw away the empty containers properly like the good boy I was. Then since it was early, I checked my phone, 5:36. Still early, generally the entire school still wasn’t lit, so it was eeriely dakr and empty. I was used to it. But then thoughts started swimming in my head. There was once a murder happened in our school, I’m not sure about the facts but a woman commited suicide in one of our level 3 classrooms. Curious, ballsy, and overall stupid, I decided to investigate.

I peered into every classroom, using my camera phone to video tape my progress. After scanning I would enter the classroom, walk into the middle and do a 360 scan, anyway, this went off without a hitch until I reached the fabled “haunted” classroom. As soon as i peered into it, I felt my adreneline spike, there was indeed a woman, her back was facing me, she sat on one of the table, staring at the cupboard situtated at the back of every class. I quietly position my phone to video tape her, I remembered her turning around to face me, what I recalled of her face still sends shivers, it was completly flat, smooth, and gleaming white, this woman didn’t have a face! And then I blacked out.

I woke up at excatly 7:36, The class was greeting the teacher and my partner was nudging me awake, I quickly stood up and greeted the teacher. I recalled my head hurting like crazy, and I was unconciously checking my phone, it was indeed 7:36, I was freaking out, how the hell did I get into my classroom, which was at the end of the school. *The haunted classroom was the thrid one form the staircase landing, my class is the class furthest away from it* I was wondering what happenend to me during that 2 hours I was out. Anyway, We had to sing the national anthem, so I left the classroom to gather outside my class to sing.

After the anthem and pledge taking, I noticed as I was entering the classroom, the faceless lady was among us! I saw her “staring” at me among the rush of students. I choked on the water I was drinking and tried a 2nd look, she was gone. Then I remembered my phone had a video. I wondered if I had her on film. I watched it and recalled the excat position of where she was. What was in the video however, was this misty white reddish thing. Then the video cracked up in static, I noted this was about the time I blacked out, but the static stopped and I saw the white reddish thing fuilling up the whole screen!

I deleted the video at that point. And throughout the whole day, I caught brief glimpse of her when I least expected it, the toilet, science lab, canteen. I really freaked out at that point. I made an excuse and got an early dismissal form, it was 11 when I finally couldn’t take it anymore, as I left the school the security guard stopped me and chided me.

“See la! Told you eat in canteen…what did you see?”

I related what had happened. He spoke quickly.

“She must’ve possessed you during that two hours…nevermind, go home, talk to your elders and ask them to bless you. It will be fine. And if anyone calls your name, don’t just look behind, turn your whole body around.”

This time I listened to his words and headed home by cab. I plugged the MP3 to my ears and played the music as loud as my ear drums could take to strain out any other noises. As soon as I reached home, my grandmother knew what happened and quickly let me in, she asked me to stand infront of an effigy of the Goddess of Mercy and she blessed me. I headed for the toilet soon after.

What I saw in the mirror was scary. my face was pale, very pale, and I had blood trickling from my tempel to my neck. I quickly washed away the blood, took a bath, applied some first-aid and slept. I woke up at roughly 9 in the night, I knew I was dreaming, but I couldn’t recall what was it. But as I thought hard about this, I recalled what I was dreaming, the faceless woman, we looked at each other face to “face” throughout the whole dream.

This happened a week ago. I’m still having the nightmares, but it’s getting less and less. And I hardly see the faceless woman anymore. Thank god actually…

Story #11: Whose Hand Was I Holding?

Anyways, This one is one of the many I’ve experienced. This happened after my grandfather’s funeral *God bless his soul*

I’m what you call a 2nd-hand smoker, I always, always stick near to my grandfather, who smokes the Camel brand of ciggerete regularly. So I was pretty heartbroken when he left the world.

I volunteered to keep watch one night during the funeral. making sure no black cat ard, etc.etc. So I was lazily playing blackjack with my relatives when suddenly got black out. The older relatives quickly order everyone around. Hold the person’s hand nearest to you and don’t move about.

I heard there is a superstition about this, when a blackout happens during a funeral, it means there is alot of “Spirits” around. So I quickly grabbed the nearest hand I could and held tight.

Now at this moment, I remembered the hand I was holding on to was quite bony, and I was holding it the way I usually held hands with my grandfather. grabbing his index, middle and ring finger. But as soon as I realised that, the lights slowly came on.

I thought it must’ve been one of the older relatives, but to my surprise, there was no one besides me. Question was, whose hand was I holding?

Story #10: Zhao Bu Dao

[This story follows a old chinese belief. I never heard of the saying till i heard this story from a show in taiwan and i checked with my grandparents who are traditional ppl who told me the saying is true but i’ll never wish to find out personally]

(he told her)

(she left the house in a hurry, grabbing her shoes and ran away, still half dressed]

Daniel cursed under his breath and look at his clock. Its 11.45pm.

He went to bathe.

He came out of the bathing room, its 11 55pm.

He froze looking at the clock. Chris’s words ringing in his ear.

He went ouside his room and look downstairs at the first floor story.Everything dark and off.silence.

he went to use the com…silence in the room.Clock ticking.

Clock Chimes midnight~ daniel leap up in his chair, startled.
He breathes in slowly and decides to turn in….he walks to the light switch..

‘THUD THUD THUD’

Daniel froze his chest hurts by the sudden increase rate the heart is racing.

‘THUD THUD THUD’

Daniel swiched off ths light and ran to his bed snuggled under the covers only light in the room was from the window-the moon shining on to him.

‘THUD THUD THUD’

It sounds as though something hard was hitting on to the ground downstairs.

He kept really really quiet…breathing hard.

then he heard the voice that he was sure he was dreaming a nightmare yet hes awake for it said :

‘(in chinese) Zao Bu Dao~~~~**cries **sobs’
[it means ‘cannot find’]

He shivers and then he remembered chris’s words.

‘Zao Bu Dao~~~~~~’

He hurries out of bed and his eyes franticaly scanned thru the room for a hiding spot. Then his mind said to him, Under The bed.

‘THUD THUD THUD’
The sounds were moving up the staircase.

He went down his knees. He squeezed himself under fast and hard not caring that the bed is very low and hes not so small.

‘Zao Bu Dao~~~~’ ‘THUD THUD THUD’ the sounds reached 2nd floor outside his room door.

He made it under the bed. He force himself to turn over to face out to be able to see the room instead of the inside wall then regretted it thus closing his eyes at once praying fast.

‘Zao Bu Dao’
‘THUD THUD THUD’

his other room’s door creaks slowly..

‘ZAO BU DAO~~~~~’
the voice of cindy sounded miserable.

His toliet door creaks open.

‘ZAO BU DAO~~~~~~~~’ ‘THUD THUD THUD’

‘THUD’
His room door creaks open.

His eyes close shut his breathing stops. His prayer stops in his mind hes listening attentively.

‘THUD THUD THUD’
‘ZAO BU DAO~~~~~’

‘AH!~ ZONG YI ZAO DAO LE’ [finally i found it.]’

Daniel shivered badly…eyes still shut….

slient for so long. so long. daniel opened his eyes.

he screamed. he died.

‘(news) a young boy around the age of 18 was found dead huggled under his own bed. It seems that the young boy was found frightened to death for his eyes were wide opened his mouth were wide open and his body was cold and purple…and there was nothing wrong with the boy, its a unnatural death and the police is now…’

chris stares at the tv… his grandparents told him on the phone when he told them about his friend’s unusual death that his advice would have worked….if only he knew how the decrease died.

visualise this::

Cindy fell and landed HEAD first.

She commited suicide and thus cursed to travel around that way and to experience the same death every night.

SHE TRAVELS NOW ON HER HEAD WITH HER LEGS IN THE AIR…SHES CURSED TO TRAVEL UPSIDE DOWN.

EVERYTIME SHE TRAVELS, HER HEAD RISE ABOVE GROUND THEN STRAIGHT DOWN SMASH HARD ONTO GROUND…GOES UP THEN DOWN,SMASH HARD. GOING THRU THE SAME DEATH AND PAIN EVERYTIME SHE ‘WALKS’

THATS WHY THERES THE ‘THUD THUD THUD’ HITTING THE GROUND HARD SOUND.

(imagine how many people die this way. tragic..)

THATS WHY DANIEL WAS FOUND.
ALL CINDY DOES IS TO GOES TO THE BED AND SHE SEES HIM UNDER THE BED.

DANIEL SEES HER FACE.ONLY HER FACE…

Story #9: The Pulau Ubin Toilet

We were camping roughly around the North area of PU (Pulau Ubin for short) I recall it was called North Beach, anyway, I was there for a CCA leadership camp. And it sucked like hell.

The training was tough, we couldn’t complain, we were stared. Yea, I see alot of leadership in that O_O” Anyways, we were about to go to the NPCC campsite, it was quite a distance away, and we needed a refill on drinkable water.

It just so happened that I was my group’s waterboy on that day. It was the last day of the camp, so everyone was in high sprits, we simply threw a banquet, cooking up all the uncooked food left. Anyways, back to my “holy” duty. I gathered my group’s bottle and joined the line that was slowly forming. There were roughly 14 waterboys, including me, the rest was there to enjoy peeing or taking a dump at an actual toilet instead of a “shithole” or the nearby, ‘dead’ toilet that the girls use. *which, having been there (I’ll relate it later), I’ve sworn off PU for quite a long time*

As we were being lead by our one of our camp ICs, we all called him BD *Bulldog*, as we were about a stone’s throw away from the campsite, leaves rustled to the left, it was from the forst, and out came something alien. I was beside BD and joking with him, so I caught a full sight of it as BDs torchlight was lighting the ground infront of us.

“Oh shit! wild boar! Run!”

I saw BD paniced as he chased everyone away, I however stood dumbstruck for a minute before he yanked my collar and threw me running. I ran, ran all the way to the ‘dead’ toilet on the hill, and hid there, soon after my friend joined me. After the chaos had calmed down somewhat, we exited the toilet. The rest had calmed down alot. the water refill was called off and we were forced back to camp, but before I could actually take a step towards the camp. *The ‘dead’ toilet was on a hill overlooking the entrance to our campsite*.

“F**k! Run, don’t look behind!”

My friend urged me, I quickly ran, fearing another wild boar. As soon as we reached back camp, my friend fainted. I was assigned to take care of him. So I did. *I didn’t want to bitch about it and do 100 pushups, with claps included.*

Anyway, as soon as my friend woke up, she grabbed my head and pulled it as close as I could restrain from getting my lips touching hers. *Damn I should’ve just kissed her, she was pretty hot*

“The toilet is haunted…”

I knew something was wrong straightaway. After seeing that so-called “wild boar” I confront BD, he simply brushed it away. thretening me to give me the worse set of PT the next morning if I didn’t shut up.

The night went on, me tending to my friend, whom ad her eyes tightly closed, but I knew she was awake, because she kept brething in deeply and jump at every little sudden sounds. I let her hold my hand, she was really cold and clammy.

“Don’t let go…please…”

I recalled her pleading to me, and so I was, stuck, my hand in another girl’s hand, throughout the night, with no sleep. BD kept himself awake with me, we had coffee ad chatted about various issues *I recalled one was about Yaoi and japanese women, even we had a conversation on Transvestites*

AS soon as I got on to the boat leaving PU, my friend still holding my hand. BD boarded the boat with me, since me, her and him was the last three, we were alone on the boat trip back. I confronted BD again, he shrugged and explained what he saw.

“You sure you want to know?”

“Duh! I’m pretty sure I saw what you saw…”

What I saw, was not a wild boar, but some hunched-back animal, what was freaky about it was its legs were the usual pig-like, but more human hand and feet. I told him what I saw and he shrugged.

“I saw it’s face…it was a guys…”

Chills really went down my spine, even now in fact. My friend whispered to me, I got closer to her, then I heard it.

“The toilet was full of hanged corpses, and one was trying to grab me…”

I swore i pissed myself, but my bowel held, thankfully.

Story #8: The Bloody Train

You’ve heard rumors of trains being haunted, even being reported on newspapers, well, its tru, but not only to certain ‘unclean’ places, it happens at anytime, whenever, and when it feels like it.

Well, since I was lazy to go home alone, I waited for my bro’s friend to knock off from work. Since he couldn’t actually follow me all the way home, we simply smuggled some snacks as he accompanied me as I waited for my train.

“You better get home fast, don’t linger at the station, today damn suay…”

If course, I didn’t believe him, he ranted about it, saying if every worker at the station today had some kind of unexplained accident, the night was going to be very troublesome.

“Most people quit after awhile, but I too thick skinned…”

He laughed and I choked on my Takoyaki in a mid laugh. But he was serious. I assured him I’ll do just that, the train arrived soon after and he warned me once again, if anything funny happens, just close your eyes and pray.

I nodded and tossed my now empty takoyaki box at him. Entering the train as the doors closed behind me. The train gathered speed and I sat down, I was the only guy so far in my compartment, there were others, but the closesst person was at least 2 carraiges away from me. I shrugged and plucked in my MP3 player.

Then it happened, my MP3 started gettin fuzzy, Silent Hill style, I grunted and unplugged the earphone, and returned it back, still the fuzzing persisted. I took it off completly and stuffed it into my bag.

This was pretty wierd, I noticed a lady beside, she was extremly pale and looked asleep. I shrugged, amybe she was one of the other passenger. Anyway, I took out my manga to read, it was Vegabond book 2. X3

Anyway, suddenly her hands came into my view and blocked my comic, I turned to look at her and got te shock of my life.

I noticed her only when her eyes were closed, but now, with her eyes wide open, I could only see gapin sockets of where eyes were supposed to be. And they were crying blood.

I recalled running my ass out as soon as the door opened. I quickly ran out of the station, only to realise I was only a station away i made my way back to the same station, my bro’s friend knew something went wrong and invited me into the station.

“You saw something right?”

I couldn’t reply, I just kept silent, he looked into te monitor and shaked his head.

“You damn lucky, you only saw one…”

I was curious, I asked him why.

“Look at this camera…”

I was looking, it was live video feed from one of the camera, it was showing the place where we two were previously, only that there were more people.

“Those aren’t people…”

I noted, and ofcourse, they weren’t. I felt shivers crawl through my spine. My bro’s friend gave me some cash to take a cab home.

Of course I still take the MRT, but I’ve a small phobia on very pale ladies till now.

Story #7: The Chalet Incident

To be excat we were bunking out in a chalet at Downtown East at Pasir Ris it was right at the end of the place, I recalled it was block J or E, room 206 and 7/8. Not really sure, anyway, it was conjoining single rooms.

Me and the rest of the guys went ahead and took a swim while the gals all prepared the barbeque. We did some really stupid stuff, like my friend wearing diapers instead of swimming trunks to swim. LOL!

So we trooped back to the chalet after roughly an hour of lazing in the pool, only to see the girls all bunched together, all staring intently into our chalet rooms.

“Oi! What happened?”

My friend asked, they didn’t answer, just asked us to keep quiet. So curious, we joined them in what they were trying to look at. I whispered to my friend.

“Bloody hell, what you bodohs doing?”

“There’s something in the chalet…”

As you know DTE Pasir Ris has chalets that have a BBQ pit, followed by the pathway, so we were on the pathway, looking into the small gap in between the wall and the curtain, suddenly, something white flashed by and went into the wall.

The girls screamed and ran, we just yelled and ran too, but at this point I simply blacked out. At this point, trusting my friends, they said I was running with them, but I was like on auto-pilot, very zombie-like, not like the usual me. When I regained conciousness, I was lying on my friend’s lap and she was watching the guys as they played the XBOX.

My head was throbbing hard, I was in pain, so I asked my friend what happened and why I was lying on her lap.

“You don’t recall?”

“No, that’s why I’m asking…”

She told me I said it was safe as long as we either ignore it or be friendly *which I didn’t recall saying*, and we all trooped back to the chalet to no more encounters. What I had a problem was, this whitish thing was still hanging around, I could faintly detect it, like something you notice at the corner of your eye but once you turn to look, it disappears.

2 Days passed with us having the usual fun, I kept feeling suspicious as I knew it was still hanging around us. When it was time to check out, we were cleaning up, so I decided to check under the bed if we’ve dropped anything under it.

I recalled seeing a face staring back at me. IT was a little kid. I blacked out at this point. When I woke up, I was lying on the bed with my friends looking at me.

“Oi you! Why suddenly old man issit? why you faint sia? first time I see…”

“Aiyah dun bother me, just shaddup and let’s leave.”

I knew who the whitish thing was already and I had no intention of staying near him any longer.

“You acting damn kua zhang, relax leh? Go drink some beer or something…”

We had some cans left over so I got one and drank half of it in one gulp. The rest I sipped quietly the rest of the way. I left first, not wanting to be near the chalet any longer and heped the gang deposit the keys. We had lunch at the food court.

“Hey, you know what That’s kid damn helpful seh! I asked him if he saw my CD, he immediatly found it!”

I got chills down my spine, what kid?

“What kid?”

“The little kid! You were out that time, he came through the door and asked if we needed help.”

I knew immediatly knew which kid it was and quietly finished my curry rice. I had high fever for the whole of next week.

Story #5: What Happened To Pei Qi

Friends who know me will know that I usually go home for dinner every night after work since I got married.

There was this one night when I headed home after work for dinner and along the corridor, I saw Pei Qi standing outside her house, looking very sad.

I had to walk past her house before reaching my own unit.

Pei Qi is a young 18-year-old girl who had just completed her “A” levels and she is staying with her grandmother beside our house.

Pei Qi is a very polite, caring, and pleasant girl who has been staying with her old grandmother since she was 3 years old after both her parents died in a car accident.

As we are neighbours who stay just next to each other, my wife and I treat her like our own daughter.

Lately, Pei Qi has been telling us that she would be applying for Scholarship to do her degree in the States but she is worried to leave her grandmother behind alone should her application be granted.

We have known Pei Qi´s grandmother for the past 20 over years and she is, in fact, like a mother to us.

Actually we are like 三代同堂 (3 generation family) living in 2 units side by side.

Both my wife and I have spoken to Pei Qi and told her should she have the chance to go abroad for further studies, she should go and we will definitely keep an eye on her grandmother and take care of her grandmother during her 3 years absence.

So when I saw Pei Qi standing outside her unit sadly, I asked her: “Hi, Pei Qi, why are you standing outside your house? Have you had your dinner?”

“Hello Uncle Lee. No, I haven´t eaten my dinner yet…” Pei Qi looked very sad while talking to me.

“Pei Qi, is there a problem? Come tell Uncle Lee what is it. Don´t worry, my wife and I will help you with anything you need.”

“Uncle Lee…sobs…sobs…” Tear drops started to roll down her cheeks.

“Ai-yo, Pei Qi, big girl already, 乖 don´t cry. Tell Uncle Lee what´s wrong and don´t you worry about anything.”

I am very scared to see lady cries, once they cry, my heart pains.

“Sob…sob…. Uncle Lee… I have to trouble you and Aunty Lee to help me take care of my grandmother…”

“So your application for Scholarship is granted already, is it? It´s a good thing, no need to cry one la.” Young people are like that, can´t bear to leave their family behind.

“Uncle Lee… sob… sob… please take good care of my grandma, ok?” Pei Qi´s tears are like coming out from tap, cannot stop.

“Pei Qi, don´t cry. We will definitely look after your grandmother, that goes without saying. You just have a peaceful mind and concentrate on your studies when you are there in the States, ok?”

“Thank you very much, Uncle Lee…”

“Don´t worry Pei Qi, now wipe away your tears and don´t let your grandma see you crying in case she thought Uncle Lee bully you. Go in and have your dinner and don´t think too much.”

After seeing Pei Qi went into her unit, I walked back to my unit and expecting dinner to be ready for the “大嘴蚶” cos I was very hungry.

But no leh, dinner was not ready and in fact my wife wasn´t even at home. Hmmm… just as I was scratching my head, my wife opened our door with her key and walked in slowly with Pei Qi´s grandmother.

Pei Qi´s grandmother was crying and so was my wife.

“What happen? Is it because Pei Qi going to the Sta…” I talked half way and was interrupted by my wife.

“Pei Qi is dead. She met with a fatal accident this morning and we have just collected her body from the Mortuary…”

My mind just went blank…………

Story #6: Mirror Mirror on the wall

This one was during a school outing. To chinatown, it was a heritage tour. You know? So at Chinatown there’s this heritage building that’s popular with the tourist. Alright, anyways, once you go in there, and walked lazily through, you’ll come across a room of a prostitute, with a small oval mirror on the wall across from where you’re standing.

I dunno about you guys, but never look into it more than 3 times.

Cause that’s what I did, and I saw something really really freaky. The mirror started to have a face on it. since it does not directly face you, it faces a wall. It scares you shitless. I was. *I’m still scared*

The face is really really pretty, but after you see, please don’t blink! I blinked to see if I was seeing things and the face was looking at me. Then it slowly disappeared.

I encountered it. and three of my friends saw it too, as I told them what to do. My malay friend swore he saw it. but it was different. He said his was.

“Got this chio bu standing there, then she will turn around and look at me…mati mati, I see hantu alreadi…”

Then he went off to mutter some Quran verses. I a free thinker could only cursed and apologise. But o use liao, kena arrowed. I went back and stared at the mirror. And apologised. Nothing happened. But throughout the whole trip I was shivering even thought it was 2 pm. But the next day I was alright, so I guess I’m fine.

-==-

There is one on the 3:33am.

This one I can’t think of a title.

But If you’re keeping up late at night, what I always do is close my eyes really really tight at 3:33, if I ever cross that timing.

Why? Cause as of now, I’m typing to you, my computer is just besides my window, and if I turn my head right, I’ve a clear view of what’s going outside my snail shell of a room.

Anyways, this one was really freaky.

Ok, it was roughly 3:30, cause I was DOTA-ing…lolz…anyways, my neck was aching like crazy, so I turned it left and right to stretch it.

It must’ve been 3:33 *I assume*

Cause as I twisted my neck right, there were 4 “things” sticking their faces against my window. Staring at me. And I knew there was more. So i pretended to continue stretching my neck. But as i stretched it left and right again. The faces were gone. But I knew they were there.

I ended the game and quickly went to bed.

Story #4: Where's Mummy?

Mr Tan had been married for 7 years. He was an average white-collar executive in a MNC, driving a Nissan, lived in a Terrace, went for vacation every year with his wife and only son. He paid his tax timely, his life was nothing but plain routine, plain like the plain water.

On a Friday night, Mr Tan came home later than usual after having a few Beer in the Pub with some of his colleagues.

Mrs Tan wasn´t feeling well and they started a quarrel over a trivial matter and accidentally, Mr Tan killed his wife.

He was panic and didn´t know what to do. He was only 30 years old, he had a good career and he definitely didn´t want to go to jail for a mistake, an unintended mistake, caused by him.

Good thing his 5-year-old son Alex was already asleep.

After much consideration, Mr Tan buried his wife in his garden. His corner terrace was the last unit and his immediate neighbour, the Lim Family was in the States and would only be back the following week.

While cleaning himself in the bathroom, Mr Tan kept thinking, “How am I going to explain to Alex where his mummy has gone to?”

Knowing his 5-year-old was super-duper glued to his mummy, Mr Tan was really worried how to answer Alex question about his mummy´s whereabout.

One day passed… Alex never asked any question.

Second day passed… Alex still didn´t ask for his mummy.

Third day passed…

Fourth day passed…

On the fifth day, Mr Tan could no longer suppress his doubts, he asked Alex, “Alex, how come you don´t miss your mummy? How come you never ask me where mummy goes?”

Alex, with his big innocent eyes, looked at his daddy and replied, “Daddy, I want to ask you one question?”

“Yes?” Mr Tan asked.

“Why are you carrying mummy behind your back for so many days……”

Story #3: Whose At Home?

Siti slammed the Taxi door extremely hard to show the bloody Taxi Uncle her perturbness.

Already fed-up with the extra work which made her stay-back to do the month-end closing till so late and then kena a lousy Taxi uncle trying to be funny with her.

The uncle’s uncorth statements still lingered in her agitated mind:

“Wah, why pretty girl like you still got to work so late huh?…How your abang allows such a pretty girl like you to work so late?… Your eyes so big and beautiful and your hands so very smooth and tender, sure good to hold and … You have very good head-lights hor, so if you go Africa, the babies there sure won’t starve one lah since so much susu for them, he he he… Your lips so nice just like “Shu-qi”, so sexy and sure tempting all the guys to want to kiss you…”

In Siti’s mind, she was cursing hard at the Taxi driver, “@#$%&@, what has my beauty and assets got to do with you and who the hell is “Shu-qi”, you dirty old man.”

Finally, after a long 35 minutes ride in the hyper strong air-conditioned Taxi, she reached the main road of her flat at Hougang.

Siti required to walk a short distance of about 5 minutes from the main road to the block which was situated 6 blocks from the main road. She stayed with her mother in the flat as all her siblings were married and had already moved out.

The watch on her left wrist showed that it was already 11:58 pm. She usually reached home at 7.00 pm, at most 7.30 pm if there’s traffic jam but tonight…She had informed her mother about working late and she knew that her mother would not be sleeping until she saw her daughter reaching home safely.

Siti took out her pack of Marlboro and lighted a stick while she headed home. The wind tonight was really strong and she had to stand still and covered her lighter with her hands in order to successfully light her cigarette.

While she was tilting her head a little towards the lighter, through the corner of her eyes, she noticed a white shadow at the end of Block.

Siti felt her heart skipped a few beats as the white shadow was gliding slowly along the void deck towards her in total silence…

Ghost, Spirit, Hantu, were words that kept flooding her mind as the white shadow came nearer and nearer towards her.

5 meters away, 4 meters away, 3 meters away and still coming nearer and nearer…

She felt both her legs were rooted on the ground and she almost let out a scream had she not recognized the white shadow was none other than the lonely Indian old lady who had been feeding the stray cats every night routinely.

She laughed at her own wild imagination and continued to walk home.

She walked past the 1st Block and while walking towards the 2nd Block, she started to hear the sound of a woman’s crying, very softly, almost inaudible but due to the perfect quietness of the night, Siti could hear the sobbing rather clearly.

“woo…hoo…woo…woo…hoo…woo…” The cry sounded so pathetic as if the woman was trying to tell the world her sorrow.

Siti’s pretty face turned completely pale once again but she just kept walking towards her Block.

“woo…woO…hoo…WOO…” The cries turned louder and louder…

As Siti walked past the lift and behind the wall of the 2nd Block, stood 2 figures.

“OMG!!!” Siti almost screamed when she suddenly saw 2 figures standing behind the wall.

A young couple, standing motionlessly against the wall, was also startled by Siti’s sudden appearance.

The young girl was crying and the young man was trying to console her…

As Siti walked away from the troubled couple, she couldn’t stop thinking to herself, “Stupid girl lah, now kena already then cry, for what? You shouldn’t have agreed to him in the first place…”

Siti walked past the 3rd, 4th and 5th block without meeting any strange things, just that the temperature around her seemed to have dropped further and further…

“@#$%&@, it is freezing tonight. Can’t wait to get a good hot shower and sleep.”

As Siti walked towards the lift below her block, she looked up to her kitchen on the 5th storey (a habit she had over the years) and she saw her mother standing there looking down at her smiling, as usual.

Seeing that her mother was waiting for her made her smile too and a sense of warmness past through her body in the cold surrounding, knowing that your loved one was waiting for you to come home.

Just as she was walking into the void deck towards the lift, she sensed something strange around her. She couldn’t tell what was not right except the extremely unusual cold tempeartute and there seemed to be a sudden feeling of FEAR which was building up in her.

She looked around but saw no one, not a single soul at all but her intuition and sixth sense told her/ warned her that something was just not right…

“Fxck!!! I am almost home, don’t let me encounter anything strange. All I need is to get into the lift, press the number 5 button and get home safe and sound.”

Just as she was waiting for the lift, alone of course, she heard someone calling her name, “Siti, you are back at last.”

Siti almost screamed and when she turned around to the direction of the source of the sound, she saw her mother standing near the letter box waiting for her.

“Mother?!?! When did you come down and how can you come down so fast?”

“I have been waiting here for you for half an hour already.”

THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

Siti had just seen her mother standing in their kitchen looking down at her just 5 seconds ago… so who was that in their house…

Siti was reluctant to go up to her own house…

Story #2: Sounds on the Car Roof

“Dear, how long more before we are there?” Jane asked her husband Peter who was driving the old Nissan.

Peter and Jane were newly wed. Both of them were Malaysians who worked in Singapore to earn more due to the favourable exchange rates. As Chinese New Year was just around the corner, they had decided to go back to their hometown in Malaysia.

“Another 2 hours at most. Why? Is my dear-dear sleepy? Take a nap and when you open your eyes again, we will be home.” Peter touched Jane´s face affectionately as he answered her.

“No, I am not tired, just wondering if this old car which you borrowed from Ah Huat can function well till we reach home.” Jane asked Peter as the Nissan had just been collected from the workshop in the evening before heading home.

“Don´t worry, it will be fine.”

The long, bumpy, deserted road in semi-lit lamp-posts looked rather eerie and the trees along the road made the scenery more scary to Jane as she had heard so many “Ghost” stories which happened along this inevitable route back to Malaysia.

After driving for another 15 minutes or so, the old Nissan started to cough and purr and finally puffed out its last cough and decided to take a rest.

Peter steered the car to the roadside and switched on the hassle hazard lights in order not to stand in the way of the traffic. He switched off the car engine and waited for 3 minutes before turning the car key again to try to start it.

The car coughed and coughed but just refused to start its engine again.

Peter turned and looked at Jane, “Guess it´s the engine, I am going down to take a look at the engine. Lock the door after I get off.”

Peter pecked on Jane´s cheek before stepping out of the car to look at the engine.

Jane immediately locked the door after Peter got down the car.

Peter walked to the front of the car and lifted up the bonnet trying to figure out the problem of the old car.

Jane sat in the car anxiously as she could not see Peter with the bonnet lifted up in front.

Slowly and gradually, Jane felt her eye-lids were getting heavier and heavier and she dozed off into sleep…

Jane suddenly jerked awake and by looking at her watch, she realised that she had dozed off and for a mere 15 minutes. She looked around but she still could not see Peter as the bonnet was still raised.

Although it was past midnight, a car zoomed past her in an average interval of every 3 to 5 minutes and that made Jane felt better knowing that even if Peter could not fix the car, they should be able to hitch-hike a ride from someone.

Another 15 minutes passed and Peter was still out there trying hard to solve the problem.

Suddenly, Jane heard a soft thud coming from the top of the car. Although it was quite soft, she actually jumped and almost let out a scream cos it was so quiet sitting in the car alone.

As the car was stopped under the trees, Jane told herself that the soft thud was none other than the falling of twigs from the trees.

“Thud.” Another soft knocked on the top of the car. Then another “thub”, then another and another, each getting a little bit louder. The funny thing was that Jane could not see any twig whatsoever falling from the trees nearby.

Jane tried very hard to look for Peter who was supposed to be standing in front trying to fix the engine problem but with the uplifted bonnet, her visual was blocked.

“Thud.”

“Thud.”

“Thud.”

The knocking sound became louder and louder but still bearable.

Then Jane saw a car coming from a distance behind and the car actually slowed down while overtaking Jane´s stationary car.

Jane prayed that the driver of the car would stop and gave them a helping hand but no, the driver just slowed down a little while driving passed her.

The driver in the car was an Indian guy and Jane saw that he was staring at her with 2 big round eyes and for 1 moment she thought he looked afraid, very afraid.

The next thing Jane knew, the car sped away in high speed.

Jane was really puzzled as to why the Indian driver looked so frightened and sped away so fast.

“Thud! Thud! Thud!” The knocks became louder and louder and Jane was feeling more and more frightened. She looked around desperately for Peter but the was no sign of him.

“Thud!”

From the rear mirror, Jane saw another vehicle driving towards her again. She almost opened the car door to get out to wave for the vehicle but the “thud” sound from above made her stayed tight.

The on-coming vehicle was a van and the driver started to slow down the speed when nearing to Jane´s car.

As the van drove pass Jane, she could see that the middle-aged couple with their son were seated in the front of the van. While driving parallel to Jane, both the husband and wife stared at Jane with 2 pair of big big eyes. Once again, Jane thought she saw fear in the eyes of the 2 person in the van.

Unfortunately, the driver of the van did not stop his van but instead picked up his speed and drove off quickly.

All the while, the knocking thuds from the top of the car did not stop at all, the thuds kept going on and on.

As more and more vehicles drove pass her without stopping to lend a helping hand, more and more fearful stares from the owners of the vehicles, Jane got more and more worried. She could not see Peter at all and the knocking thuds were getting louder and louder.

Finally, just before she lost her nerves, she saw 2 Police cars speeding towards her with the sirens shrieking loudly and lights flashing brightly in the night.

Thank goodness.

Both the Police cars stopped as they approached Jane´s car.

All 4 policemen, 2 from each car, stepped out of the car and walked cautiously towards Jane.

Jane opened the car door and the 4 policemen looked very anxious and 1 of them said, “Miss, slowly, please get out slowly.”

Jane was very puzzled at the 4 policemen´s cautiousness but since all of them looked so kan-chiong, she refrained herself from rushing out of the car but got out very slowly.

“Good. Just keep calm and walk slowly to us. No, don´t look back now, just walk steadily and calmly towards us. Everything will be alright.”

Walking half way towards the 4 policemen, she heard a loud “Thud” coming from the car behind her. She almost turned around to take a look but the policeman stopped her, “No Miss, dont you look back now, just keep walking.”

Finally, Jane reached the 4 policemen and 1 of the policemen immediately pulled her towards the police car.

It was then that Jane turned around to look at the car and she broke into a hysterical shriek upon seeing the unbelievable.

There, sitting on top of the car was a man, holding something in his hands and kept knocking it onto the top of the car.

The thing which he was holding and knocking continuously was Peter´s head……….

Story #1: Who Died?

Phew! Finally I was back in Singapore after my 2 months long back-packed vacation in Europe. Nowhere is like home sweet home.

After paying the taxi driver and just by stepping out in front of my flats made me smile.

Looking at the old flat in the wee hours at 3:15 am gave me a different feeling towards our Singapore´s HDB flats.

Oh yes, let me introduce myself. I am 28 years old, male, single, part-time model and currently putting up with my mother in an old 4-room HDB flats. My 2 younger sisters used to stay with us but they moved out since they got married 2 years ago. My dad died last year and now it´s only my mum and I.

I am staying on the 14th storey and at every level, there are only 3 units (point-block flats) which make our flats really quiet.

While stepping into the void-deck, I noticed that there was a piece of half-torn red paper glued to the wall beside the lift.

For the benefit of non-Chinese, let me share with you the significance of red paper which is usually pasted onto the walls of the void deck. Residents usually glue red paper on the walls (normally cut into oblong shape) on the path from the funeral wake to the house unit when somebody in a family passes away.

Seeing the half-torn red paper, I felt cold suddenly cos I knew someone living in the same block had just passed away.

When the lift door opened, I stepped into it and just before the lift door closed, Mr Wong, my neighbour staying on the same floor stepped into the lift.

There are 3 units in each level of my flats and apart from Mr and Mrs Wong, both retirees, another unit on our floor is Aunty Sharon, a divorcee, and her only 8-year-old son, Timothy.

Although I was rather surprised to see Mr Wong at such late hours, I greeted him with a broad smile and he nodded and smiled back.

Mr Wong, unlike his wife, is a rather quiet person and we only exchange morning greetings and nodding of heads when we cross path with each other.

When the lift reached our floor, I noticed that there was also a piece of red paper glued on the wall beside the lift; That means somebody at our level had just passed away.

Before I could ask Mr Wong who had just died recently, he walked out of the lift and headed back straight to his unit. It´s alright, I could ask my mother tomorrow morning and while I was closing the door, I still saw Mr Wong standing in front of his door probably waiting for Mrs Wong to open the door for him……

-------
-------

Next morning, I woke up at 1 pm and mum left me a note saying that she would be going for gei-tai 歌台 after her work that night and would not be back early.

I was meeting my friends for dinner and to pass them some of the souvenirs I bought in Europe. After a sumptuous dinner, I went home early to rest at about 9:30 pm as I was still having the jet-lag.

When I was opening my door, Timothy opened his door and called me, “Uncle James, you are back.”

“Hello, Timothy, have you eaten your dinner?”

“Yes I had dinner with mummy and she is washing the plates now.”

“Oh yes, Timothy, give me one minute.” I went into my bedroom and brought out the toy I bought for him when I was in Paris.

I passed the toy to Timothy and he smiled happily.

“Eh… Timothy, are you aware that someone passed away recently?”

“Yes, Mr Wong passed away last week and ambulance and policemen all came…”

WHAT!!! I couldn´t believe what I heard cos I just met Mr Wong the previous night taking the same lift.

“Uncle James, are you ok?” Timothy asked me softly.

“Ya, I am fine.” I did not want to scare Timothy.

Just then, Aunty Sharon opened her door to call for her son.

“Bye, Uncle James and thanks for the toy.” Timothy waved before going into his house.

“Are you ok, James? You look very pale.” Aunty Sharon asked.

I told her my encounter with Mr Wong the night before and she too turned pale. I told her not to tell Timothy anything about my encounter.

“Of course I will not tell him. James, I think you better go to the temple and pray and get some flower water to bathe tomorrow.”

I knew Aunty Sharon meant well but I am a Christian but I just nodded my head. “Please go home and keep Timothy company, Aunty Sharon.”

“Yes, see you around, James.”

Before Aunty Sharon went into her house, she looked at the door of Mr and Mrs Wong´s house.

Just as Aunty Sharon closed her door, the lift door opened and I saw Mrs Wong walking out of the lift slowly.

“Hello James, you are back. How´s your Europe trip?” Mrs Wong smiled at me.

“Hello Mrs Wong, my trip is fine. How are you? Please don´t feel so sad and you must be strong. Just give me a shout if you need anything at all.”

“What do you mean, James?” Mrs Wong looked very puzzled.

Just as I was about to continue talking, Mrs Wong´s house door opened and Mr Wong walked out towards us.

My heart probably stopped beating for a while when I saw Mr Wong walking towards us and he was smiling at me.

“You… you…” I was so shock that I could not even speak properly.

“James, are you alright? You look very pale.” Mrs Wong was very concern.

“Ghost!” I was shocked when I heard my voice coming out from my mouth as it was very weak.

“Ghost?” Mrs Wong turned around and as if she looked through Mr Wong and turned back and said, “James, where´s the ghost?”

I pointed my finger at Mr Wong who was standing behind her and managed to squeeze out the following few words, “Your husband… Mr Wong… is standing just… behind you…”

“Why are you so pale, James?” Mr Wong took a step nearer to me and tried to put his hand on my shoulder probably trying to hold on to me in case I fell.

“You are already a dead man!!” I pulled myself away from his hand.

“Who says I am a dead man?” Mr Wong sounded confused and puzzled over my statement.

“Timothy told me you died last week…” Then something struck my mind, that Timothy trying to be funny and played punk and lied to me. Children nowadays don´t know what to joke and what not to joke.

“Timothy told you? When did he tell you?” Mrs Wong asked.

“About 3 minutes ago, just before Aunty Sharon called him in…”

“Sharon called him in!?!?!” Mr Wong sounded even more afraid than I.

“Yeah, I was talking to Aunty Sharon right here where you stand and she went back home just before Mrs Wong came out from the lift. I must tell Aunty Sharon about what her son lied to me…”

“James, but that´s impossible cos both Sharon and Timothy died last week…”
